First make sure the Profile tab is selected by clicking it.

Click the “Edit Profile” button.

Then click anywhere on the circles section. The section should be highlighted in a light blue hue.

A window will show allowing you to control the visibility of your circles, down to the individual circle level. Once you are done editing, click “Save” followed by “Finished Editing” to get out of profile editing mode.

Tag Someone In A Post

In a comment box, type + or @ followed by the person's name. A box should appear containing the matching name (if the person exists). Note: Typing the name too fast may make the box disappear causing the mention attempt to fail. In the event this happens, backspace all the way back up to and including the + or @, and try to repeat the attempt again.

Once the name becomes a tab, you're done! Posting the comment will send a notification to the person that they were mentioned. The notification is sent regardless if a person mutes a thread.
If you want to prevent mentions from triggering, turn off the reshare option (but do not mention the person in the opening post since turning off reshare does not protect against mentions in the opening post).

Export Your Facebook Birthdays to Google

1. Go to your Facebook profile and click the “Events” tab on the left-hand side
2. On the “Events” page, at the top right-hand corner, click the blue drop-down menu (featuring a magnifying glass)
3. From the drop-down menu, select “Birthdays” and you will be taken to the “Birthdays” page
4. Click the drop-down menu from this page and select “Export Birthdays…”, a pop-up will offer up a URL for you to take and throw-around as you see fit

Now you have all the birthdays of your friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances. As I said before, Google Calendar is a good place to put Birthdays.. so let’s do that!

1. Go to your Google Calendar
2. On the “Other Calendars” tab beneath “My Calendars”, you can add the Birthdays via the drop-down menu which features an option to “Add by URL”
3. A pop-up will…pop-up, and you can paste the URL from Facebook into Google Calendars

Set up SMS (text) notifications

To receive SMS (text) notifications when important Google+ events--like when something is shared with you--occur:

1. Sign in to Google+ .
2. Click your full name or email address in the Google bar.
3. Click Account settings.
4. Click Google+.
5. Click Add phone number.
6. Click Send verification code to verify you entered your phone number correctly.
7. Enter the verification code and click Save.
8. Select the notifications you want to receive via SMS.
